Denzel Washington is not letting the coronavirus pandemic stop him from coming to the rescue of a stranger. On Thursday afternoon, May 21, the actor playing corrupt cop in “Training Day” was caught on camera helping Los Angeles police comfort a homeless man who came dangerously close to oncoming traffic.

The 65-year-old Oscar winner, per reported by TMZ, was driving around West Hollywood at around 1 P.M. when he spotted the distress man. He quickly pulled over his Range Rover, and persuaded the man to get out of harm’s way on the sidewalk. Dressed in a grey T-shirt and black basketball shorts, he covered his face with medical mask, while the man wore no protection.

When the police later arrived, the man was briefly detained, but was quickly released. Denzel stayed by the man’s side the whole time. At some point, he was seen talking to the man and placed a hand on the man’s shoulder in an effort to comfort him. He was also seen giving the man food, drink and a face mask.

Denzel has been known to be one of the generous stars in Hollywood. He has donated to Fisher House Foundation, which aids military families, and the Wiley College debate team after starring in 2007’s “The Great Debaters“. He has also opened his house to “Power” actor Omari Hardwick when he went broke.

Speaking to Loni Love during a 2016 interview on daytime talk show “The Real“, Omari spilled that Denzel and his wife Pauletta Washington “gave me shelter when I didn’t have a place to stay.” He shared at the time, he lived in his car and showered at the YMCA.

The former star of “Being Mary Jane” additionally revealed that Pauletta reached out to him when his car was on the brink of being repossessed. “Pauletta Washington paid, and this is the first time I’ve ever probably said it on camera, she paid for my car, you know, to not be taken back. They paid for it. She called and said, ‘I got to get down Denzel’s approval first, but he was like ‘all good,’ ” he recalled.
