Welcome to Pennsylvania's Byways! What's a Byway? It's a road that the community values and the Secretary of Transportation recognizes as a particularly special place to visit. Historic treasures, cultural attractions, recreational opportunities, and just plain gorgeous scenery are what set Byways apart.
The State of Independence has two federally designated Byways, 15 state-designated Byways, and one National Forest Scenic Byway. We've made each one into a special Byways Roadtrip, complete with maps and cool stuff to see and do. All you have to do is jump in the car and go!
